Catholic Quote

Confession heals, confession justifies, confession grants pardon of sin. All hope consists in confession. In confession there is a chance for mercy. Believe it firmly. Do not doubt, do not hesitate, never despair of the mercy of God. Hope and have confidence in confession. --St. Isidore of Seville

Living The Faith - Prayers

Christ the Great High PriestDear Lord,

We pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle around your priests and through her intercession strengthen them for their ministry.

We pray that Mary will guide your priests to follow her own words, "Do whatever He tells you” (Jn 2:5).

May your priests have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary’s most chaste spouse.

May the Blessed Mother’s own pierced heart inspire them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross.

May your priests be holy, filled with the fire of your love seeking nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls.

Amen.

Saint John Vianney, pray for us.

Come, Holy Ghost,
send down those beams,
which sweetly flow in silent streams
from Thy bright throne above.

Living The Faith - Prayers

HurricaneGod our Father, Creator of the Universe and Lord over all creation, we humbly stand before you as your children in thanksgiving for your loving care and protection. We ask that you keep us safe from all hurricanes which may threaten us in the coming seasons. Protect us from all fear and anxiety of storms and give us an ardent trust and hope in Your love and mercy. You alone bring peace, calm and safety. Father, we thank you in advance, for you are our only Refuge. We ask this through Jesus Christ Your Son, Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Mary, Queen of the Apostles, and Patroness of our Diocese, pray for us.

Living The Faith - Prayers

Merciful Father, you sent your Son into the world to free us from the power of sin and evil. Grant that, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, our Mother of Mercy, many young men will respond to your call to give of themselves in imitation of Christ the Redeemer. Fill them with the light of your Holy Spirit that they may renounce the power of the world, proclaim truth and freedom, and bring consolation and relief to oppressed Christians. Bless our family of Mercy with numerous holy priests and brothers who will offer our world the testimony of your faith and love. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Eternal Rest - A Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory Hits:1123 Print E-mail

Living The Faith - Prayers

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,

and let perpetual light shine upon them.

May the souls of the faithful departed,

through the mercy of God,

rest in peace.

AMEN.

We are bound by our Catholic faith to the great privilege and responsibility of praying that all souls who have passed on from this life into life eternal be perpetually united to God.

According to the Second Ecumenical Council of Florence, "if the truly penitent die in the love of God, before they have made satisfaction by worthy fruits of penance for their sins of commission and omission, their souls are purified by purgatorial pains after death; and that for relief from these pains they are benefited by the suffrages of the faithful in this life, that is, by Masses, prayers, and almsgiving, and by the other offices of piety usually performed by the faithful for one another according to the practice of the Church."

We pray for those named below who have passed to life eternal as friends and family of the Holy Name of Jesus community.  We also pray for those souls in purgatory whose names we do not know and have nobody to pray for them.

The Seven Sorrows
of Mary

Mother of Sorrows
Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted;  And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed.
Luke 2:34-35 DR

Let intercession be made for us, we beseech You, O Lord Jesus Christ, now and at the hour of our death, before the throne of Your mercy, by the Blessed Virgin Mary, Your Mother, whose most holy soul was pierced by a sword of sorrow in the hour of Your bitter Passion. Through You, O Jesus Christ, Savior of the world, Who with the Father and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns world without end. Amen.
