Catechism Quote

Through the prophets, God forms his people in the hope of salvation, in the expectation of a new and everlasting Covenant intended for all, to be written on their hearts. The prophets proclaim a radical redemption of the People of God, purification from all their infidelities, a salvation which will include all the nations. Above all, the poor and humble of the Lord will bear this hope. Such holy women as Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, Miriam, Deborah, Hannah, Judith and Esther kept alive the hope of Israel's salvation. The purest figure among them is Mary. - CCC 64

Family Life - Natural Family Planning (NFP)
Written by Peter and Tina Mazzella
Friday, June 12, 2009

In Humanae Vitae (On Human Life) Pope Paul VI asked for couples to find another way to help each other learn more natural ways of regulating their fertility cycles.  In 1971 the Couple to Couple League (CCL) was founded to fill this need.  The form of Natural Family Planning taught by the CCL is called the sympto-thermal method of birth regulation.

What are the benefits of Natural Family Planning to Married Couples?

  • Allows for the spacing of pregnancy and childbirth without the use of pills, injections, implants or other chemicals that have negative side effects for many women.
  • Teaches women and men about their natural fertility, and opens their minds to the wonder of creation evidenced in their own person
  • Helps couples to learn more about each other by practicing mutual respect, self-control, and cooperation in deciding when to have, or not have, children.
  • Promotes stronger marriages through the practice of these virtues, resulting in fewer divorces and a more stable family life.

The course is offered twice a year, usually given in three sessions of three hours in length. Through the course, couples learn to understand their mutual fertility by observing the women’s fertility signs, such as temperature, mucus and other secondary signs, to determine the infertile and fertile signs to achieve or avoid pregnancy.  When used properly this method is as effective as any artificial birth control available.

Please contact Peter and Tina Mazzella, Holy Name's CCL Training Couple, for more information.

Couple to Couple League - Discover a natural way to postpone or achieve a pregnancy…the Art of Natural Family Planning® is based on an awareness of a woman’s fertility. It’s medically safe, 99% effective in postponing pregnancy, very low cost, often has a positive effect on the couple’s marriage, and is morally acceptable to all major religions.
