Catholic Quote

When shall it be that we shall taste the sweetness of the Divine Will in all that happens to us, considering in everything only His good pleasure, by whom it is certain that adversity is sent with as much love as prosperity, and as much for our good? When shall we cast ourselves undeservedly into the arms of our most loving Father in Heaven, leaving to Him the care of ourselves and of our affairs, and reserving only the desire of pleasing Him, and of serving Him well in all that we can? -- St. Jane Frances de Chantal

Dear Parents of First Communicants:

The family, described by the Second Vatican Council as the "domestic church," is the model for faith formation and spiritual development, where children first learn the virtues to be People of God. Children first encounter the Gospel and its message, and learn to pray, at home. It is through the kindness and loving expression of family members that children see the tenderness of God's love come to life. In and through family life children observe what it means to be a true follower of Jesus!

At Holy Name of Jesus Church, parents play the primary role in preparing their children for First Reconciliation and First Communion through a home-based study program, with guidance and support from the parish. Therefore, on one Monday evening in October, November, January and March, children will meet with a catechist in the second grade classroom and the parents will meet in the Sr. Regina Conference Room, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The schedule for the meeting dates is as follows:

Block I -    October 5:      November 2       January 4:     March: 1
Block II -   October 12:    November 9:      January 11:    March: 8
Block III -  October 19:    November 16:    January 18     March: 15
Block IV -  October 27:    November 24:    January 26:    March: 30

• PARISH MISSION IS ON February 22-24

First communicants are assigned to a block, according to their last name, as follows:

  • BLOCK I--A through H
  • BLOCK II-1 through Q
  • BLOCK III--R through Z
  • BLOCK IV IS SPANISH

Please note parents and children are required to attend each of the four block meetings to which they have been assigned as a pre-requisite to the child's reception of First Communion in May 2010.

  • RITE OF ENROLLMENT:  First step in preparing for these sacraments. This will' take place at the First Block Meeting.
  • RECONCILIATION:  Held in Holy Name Church on MONDAY, APRIL 12, 2010, 7:00PM in Church. This Sacrament will be celebrated for ALL children who will receive First Communion in May 2010.
  • RETREAT DAY:  For your information, a day of reflection will be held for the first communicants on Sunday, April 18, 2010, after the 8:45 Mass and closing about 2:30 PM. This day will be for all the children to assist them preparing their hearts to receive Jesus in the Eucharist.
  • PRACTICE: APRIL 26, APRIL 27, APRIL 28(Spanish), 6:30pm – 8:30pm IN CHURCH.
  • FIRST COMMUNION - SATURDAY, MAY 8, 2010 10:00AM ENGLISH, 1:00PM SPANISH

If you have any questions, please call the Religious Education Office at 683-3555ex. 19 or 13

Wishing you every blessing as you lead your child to God's love.

February is dedicated to

The Holy Family

Joseph got up, took the child and his mother by night, and departed to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt have I called my son.”
Matthew 2:13-15 RSV-SCE

O most loving Jesus, Who by Thy surpassing virtues and the example of Thy home life didst hallow the household in which Thou didst choose to live while on earth, mercifully look down upon this family, whose members, humbly prostrate before Thee, implore Thy protection. Remember that we are Thine, bound and consecrated to Thee by a special devotion. Protect us in Thy mercy, deliver us from danger, help us in our necessities, and impart to us strength to persevere always in the imitation of Thy Holy Family, so that, by serving Thee and loving Thee faithfully during this mortal life, we may at length give Thee eternal praise in heaven.

O Mary, dearest Mother, we implore thy assistance, knowing that thy divine Son will hearken to thy petition.

And do thou, most glorious patriarch, St. Joseph, help us with thy powerful patronage, and place our petitions in Mary's hands, that she may offer them to Jesus Christ.  Amen.
