Living The Faith - Prayers

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,

and let perpetual light shine upon them.

May the souls of the faithful departed,

through the mercy of God,

rest in peace.

AMEN.

We are bound by our Catholic faith to the great privilege and responsibility of praying that all souls who have passed on from this life into life eternal be perpetually united to God.

According to the Second Ecumenical Council of Florence, "if the truly penitent die in the love of God, before they have made satisfaction by worthy fruits of penance for their sins of commission and omission, their souls are purified by purgatorial pains after death; and that for relief from these pains they are benefited by the suffrages of the faithful in this life, that is, by Masses, prayers, and almsgiving, and by the other offices of piety usually performed by the faithful for one another according to the practice of the Church."

We pray for those named below who have passed to life eternal as friends and family of the Holy Name of Jesus community.  We also pray for those souls in purgatory whose names we do not know and have nobody to pray for them.

Don Maceda, Ken Vizdos, Paul "Bud" Yoegle, Lesley Henney, Richard Young, Joyce Duane, Robert Cantrell, Dorothy Smith, Barbara Wilds Lynch, Jason Moyer, Everett "Evy" Hobby, Russell Woolfe, Irwin, William Panter, Sarah Stein, John Baiata, Patrick Blackadder

March is dedicated to

St. Joseph

St Joseph
Behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; 21 she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."
Matthew 1:20b-21 RSV

Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires. Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers. Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him close in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath.

St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls - Pray for me.
