Community Service - Food Pantry
Written by Beverly Tuscano
Monday, February 23, 2009
Bob Lanoue (who heads Transportation for the FP) wrote a wonderful article in the February Disciple to introduce us (Jim & Beverley Tuscano) to you, as the new Directors of the HNJ Food Pantry but we have lots of help and helping hands make light work. Under the Pavilion the space gets transformed every Thursday into a serpentine workspace divided into many areas of special items. Over the next few weeks I would like to introduce you to our many volunteers and their area, starting with the first corner entitled Options including Cereal & Peanut Butter run by Lois Ray & Beverly Guitard, the next section is Coffee, Tea, Sugar and Flour run by Edith Deane & Antoinette, the next section is Pasta, Sauce, Fruit & Beans run by Terry & Ed Grady & Gene Pielli. The next section is canned Veggies & Soup run by Vito Leonardi, Mary Allen, & Noreen Therens. Most of these wonderful Parishioners have been volunteering their services for years. Some have many jobs or areas of expertise. Some have learned all the jobs and can fill in anywhere at a moments notice. Paul Guitard and Vito seem to be the “Everything Guys”. They are willing to do whatever needs to be done. The one thing all these volunteers have in common is their love for our Community, a strong desire to
help and they all love what they are doing. I am proud of them. We are blessed with so many, willing, able and happy volunteers who come faithfully every week to lend a hand and last week succeeded in distributing food to 170 families. Next week I’ll introduce you to the volunteers that run our large Bread Section. We appreciate your generous donations and encourage you to continue bringing your gifts of Soup, Cereal, Canned Vegetables and Fruit, Pasta, Sauce, Beans, Toilet Tissue, Baby Foods and Diapers. Any of these go a long way. Please help wherever you can. Thank you!
