The Holy See has approved the New English Translation of the Third Edition of the Roman Missal. We must now await the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to determine when when can begin using the new translation in liturgy. It is expected that the new translation will be in effect for Advent of 2011.
The bishops have told us that now is the time for us to begin studying and learning the new text. When these changes take effect it will be awkward to change responses we have made for many years that, over time, have become automatic. Soon we will have to think about what we are saying at Mass. The translation will also bring about a change in the language of the Mass. The Vatican has asked that vernacular translations mare closely resemble the original Latin text. We will notice more complex wording and longer phrases as the translators have worked to emancipate the rich meaning and antiquity of the prayers of the Roman Rite. The language we will use at Mass will sound less like street English and more like one addressing a king in a royal court. We must remember the Mass makes us present on Calvary as the King of Kings was glorified by submitting His will to His Father in the Perfect Sacrifice: an example which we are called to imitate by submitting ourselves as a living sacrifice to Father. Full text of the new translation of the ordinary of Mass (Study text).

From Catholic News Agency:
After years in the making, the English translation of the new Roman
Missal is nearing its completion and is now awaiting the final approval
of the bishops and the Vatican. In an effort to begin educating the
faithful and clergy on the new translation, the U.S. bishops have
launched a website.
The new website,
which was launched on August 21, includes background material on the
process of the development of liturgical texts, sample texts from the
Missal, a glossary of terms and answers to frequently asked questions.
A press release from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)
says that content will be added to the website on a regular basis over
the next several months.
Bishop Arthur Serratelli, who chairs the bishops' Committee on
Divine Worship, welcomes the faithful to the new site in a video,
saying, "In the years since Vatican II we have learned a lot about the
use of the vernacular in the liturgy and the new texts reflect this new
understanding."

Pope Benedict XVI has declared a “Year for Priests” which began with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 19, 2009. The year will conclude in Rome with an international gathering of priests with the Holy Father on June 19, 2010. With the announcement of this Year for Priests, the Pope has declared St. John Vianney the Universal Patron of Priests on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the death of the Cure d’Ars. On the Diocese of Palm Beach website (www.diocesepb.org) you will find a number of resources to observe the celebration of the Year for Priests. There is a monthly calendar which may be printed out with the name of a priest or priests who minister in the Diocese of Palm Beach to pray for each day of the year. Please pray for our priests that they might be strengthened in their ministry.

Celibacy is a great gift and blessing for the priest, for the Church and for society. It affords the priest a unique opportunity for a greater ability to serve all of God's people as well as for an intimate and mystical union with Christ Himself. The basis for priestly celibacy is the imitation of Christ who lived His mission in complete union with His Father and gave His life in love for all. Priestly celibacy is not a function. It is a way of life in conformity to the life of Christ. Celibacy is of the same nature as marriage. Just as a husband and wife give themselves exclusively to each other for their family, the priest gives himself exclusively to Christ for the service of Christ’s family, the Church. Both ways of giving bring joy. A particular priest's human failing in regard to living his fidelity to celibacy should not call into question the joyful gift of celibacy anymore than a particular person’s infidelity to his or her spouse should call into question the joyful gift of marriage. Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted; And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed. Luke 2:34-35 DR Let intercession be made for us, we beseech You, O Lord Jesus Christ, now and at the hour of our death, before the throne of Your mercy, by the Blessed Virgin Mary, Your Mother, whose most holy soul was pierced by a sword of sorrow in the hour of Your bitter Passion. Through You, O Jesus Christ, Savior of the world, Who with the Father and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns world without end. Amen.
