God, who "dwells in unapproachable light", wants to communicate his own divine life to the men he freely created, in order to adopt them as his sons in his only-begotten Son. By revealing himself God wishes to make them capable of responding to him, and of knowing him and of loving him far beyond their own natural capacity. - CCC 52
HM Television, together with the Holy Sees Congregation for the
Clergy, presents Alter Christus, a fast-paced film on the many aspects
of the priesthood in the life of the Church. Centered on the life of
St. John Vianney, the topics covered range from the Priestly Identity
to the Sacraments, from Celibacy to the Mission.
Sirach 5:8 says,
"Do not depend on dishonest wealth, for it will not benefit you in the day of
calamity." Honesty and integrity are hallmark qualities of stewards of
Providence. Nothing, including great temporal wealth, is worth risking eternity
with the Lord. Your financial life is an open book to the Lord. Live it
accordingly.

What if thousands of people decided to fast 1 to 3 meals and then
donated $5, $10, or $15 to relief efforts to help the victims of the
earthquake in Haiti?
We could literally send thousands of dollars in aid to help those in
need and we could do it in the matter of a few days.
Join the effort and spread the word, get your entire youth group, your
church choir, your parish, your co-workers, your young adult group,
your campus ministry group, whoever you can to join this effort. Pick
one day in the next week and fast for 1 to 3 meals that day - then
donate $5, $10, or $15.
www.fastforhaiti.com is an effort of Chris Faddis and
www.livinggracefully.net - all proceeds are to be given directly to an
aid organization such as Catholic Relief Services. For more information

"We will go throughout the city, we will pass among the people
assailed by thousands of everyday problems, we will go to meet these
brothers and sisters of ours and we will show the Sacrament of Christ's
presence to all:
'Behold the bread of angels, the bread of pilgrims; the true bread of children.'
In this bread the Almighty, the
Eternal, the thrice Holy has made Himself close to us, has become
'God-With-Us,' Emmanuel." - Pope John Paul II

We will begin Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after the 8:15am Mass on Monday and conclude Wednesday Morning with solemn Benediction.
We will be offering the American Heart Association Heart Saver CPR course throughout the year. The cost is $20 per person. Anyone interested, please contact Gae Faraone. The next two classes are Tuesday, March 16th at 6pm and Saturday, March 27th at 9:30am in the Annex (Convent).
Ash Wednesday, February 17th and Good Friday, April 2nd are days of
fast and abstinence. Fridays of Lent are also days of abstinence.
Fasting
is to be observed by all 18 years of age through age 59. On a fast day
one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain
strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they
should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not
permitted but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed.
Abstinence
is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence not
meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be
seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, the parish priest should be consulted.
Fasting,
almsgiving and prayer are the three disciplines of Lent. The faithful
and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit
of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at
Easter.
Living as a steward of Providence - In a recent 7 Steps small group, we were discussing how applying Catholic principles to finances helps us reach two important goals in life: growing in love of the Lord, and achieving Godly financial objectives. One of the participants noted how important the word applying was. He said it's easy to dream about goals, talk about them, and even write them down. But, he noted, those aren't the same as doing them. What did the Blessed Mother say to the stewards at the wedding feast at Cana? "Do whatever he tells you" (Jn. 2:5). True financial freedom results from consistently following a few principles that lead to success with finances and success with life. It starts by fulfilling our God-given role as a steward of Providence. While money plays a part in all of our lives, life's about a lot more than money.
The most important step you can make to become truly financially free is to grow in your relationship with the Lord. Why? As you learn to better imitate Christ, your priorities will change, including the way you view your finances. You'll desire to have a Godly financial plan and follow through on that plan. Take a moment to consider your walk with Christ. Are you moving forward? Backward? Side-ways? Frequent reception of the Eucharist, daily prayer and spiritual reading, and the sacrament of reconciliation are all effective ways to deepen our union with the Lord and guide us to being a more effective steward of Providence. God loves you!

WASHINGTON, D.C., Nov. 20, 2009—Today a group of
prominent Christian clergy, ministry leaders and scholars released the
Manhattan Declaration, which addresses the sanctity of life,
traditional marriage and religious liberty. The 4,700-word declaration
issues a clarion call to Christians to adhere to their convictions and
informs civil authorities that the signers will not—under any
circumstance—abandon their Christian consciences. Drafted by Dr.
Robert George, Dr. Timothy George and Chuck Colson and signed by more
than 150 Orthodox, Catholic and evangelical Christian leaders, the
Manhattan Declaration was made public at a noon ET press conference
held in the Lisagor Room at the National Press Club.
A Call of Christian Conscience
Christians, when they have lived up to the highest ideals of their
faith, have defended the weak and vulnerable and worked tirelessly to
protect and strengthen vital institutions of civil society, beginning
with the family.
We
are Orthodox, Catholic, and evangelical Christians who have united at
this hour to reaffirm fundamental truths about justice and the common
good, and to call upon our fellow citizens, believers and non-believers
alike, to join us in defending them. These truths are:
the sanctity of human life
the dignity of marriage as the conjugal union of husband and wife
the rights of conscience and religious liberty.
Inasmuch as these truths are foundational to human dignity and
the well-being of society, they are inviolable and non-negotiable.
Because they are increasingly under assault from powerful forces in our
culture, we are compelled today to speak out forcefully in their
defense, and to commit ourselves to honoring them fully no matter what
pressures are brought upon us and our institutions to abandon or
compromise them. We make this commitment not as partisans of any
political group but as followers of Jesus Christ, the crucified and
risen Lord, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
With Lent quickly approaching on February 17th, it's time to examine our consciences and make a good confession. While frequent confession is recommended for everybody, the Church requires that we make a confession of our sins at least once each year.
Fr. Z’s 20 Tips For Making A Good Confession o{]:¬)
We should…
1) ...examine our consciences regularly and thoroughly;
2) ...wait our turn in line patiently;
3) ...come at the time confessions are scheduled, not a few minutes before they are to end;
4) ...speak distinctly but never so loudly that we might be overheard;
5) ...state our sins clearly and briefly without rambling;
6) ...confess all mortal sins in number and kind;
7) ...listen carefully to the advice the priest gives;
8) ...confess our own sins and not someone else’s;
9) ...carefully listen to and remember the penance and be sure to understand it;
10) ...use a regular formula for confession so that it is familiar and comfortable;
11) ...never be afraid to say something "embarrassing"... just say it;
12) ...never worry that the priest thinks we are jerks…. he is usually impressed by our courage;
13) ...never fear that the priest will not keep our confession secret… he is bound by the Seal;
14) ...never confess "tendencies" or "struggles"... justsins;
15) ...never leave the confessional before the priest has finished giving absolution;
16) ...memorize an Act of Contrition;
17) ...answer the priest’s questions briefly if he asks for a clarification;
18) ...ask questions if we can’t understand what he means when he tells us something;
19) ...keep in mind that sometimes priests can have bad days just like we do;
20) ...remember that priests must go to confession too … they know what we are going through.

March is dedicated to
St. Joseph
Behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; 21 she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."
Matthew 1:20b-21 RSV
Oh,
St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the
throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires. Oh, St. Joseph,
do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your
divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So
that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my
thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers. Oh, St. Joseph, I
never weary contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not
approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him close in my name and
kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the Kiss when I draw my
dying breath.
St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls - Pray for me.
